When is the College of Business Administration Commencement?

Commencement will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2013 in the university quad. CBA has one of the largest ceremonies on campus and it is essential that graduates go to the line-up area on Mansion Lane at 8 a.m. Arriving late may prohibit you from walking in the procession.

Why haven’t I received information on Commencement?

All CBA correspondence regarding Commencement will be posted on the CBA website and e-mailed via your csupomona.edu address. Correspondence will begin in May. If you graduated before Spring Quarter 2013 and do not have access to your Cal Poly Pomona e-mail address, please click here

How can I get tickets for Commencement?

Cal Poly Pomona does not give tickets for Commencement. Seats are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. There are approximately 10,000 seats available to guests. For the seats closest to the stage, it is best to arrive at least an hour before the ceremony begins.

How do I know if I’m eligible to participate in Commencement?

For questions relating to academic eligibility, go to the CBA advising website and the Registrar’s Office website.

If I’m within eight units of getting my degree is there anything special I have to do?

Yes. You must complete the Commencement Participation Form. Deadline will be posted soon.

If I participate in Commencement does that mean I passed all my Spring Quarter classes and have earned my degree?

No. The Commencement ceremony is a celebration and not the official recognition for those who have earned a degree or passed their Spring Quarter classes.

How do I know my name will be read at Commencement?

When you arrive at the line-up area at 8 a.m. on Mansion Lane, everyone will receive a card pre-printed with your name & address.  You will make any corrections and fill in your e-mail address and the phonetic spelling of your name. This card will ensure your name is read at the ceremony and that you will receive official Commencement photos from Bob Knight Photography.

I have more than one business concentration. Will I be able to walk on stage more than once?

No, a student can only walk on stage once.

Will parking and seating be available for graduates and guests with disabilities?

Yes. Parking Lot C will be available for the elderly and people with disabilities and transportation to the ceremony will be provided. Graduates should contact the Disability Resource Center for Commencement seating. Guests should visit the University's Commencement website.

When is Commencement over?

The Commencement ceremony ends when everyone has received their diplomas and the President’s party has exited the stage. Typically, the ceremony will end sometime between 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Out of respect for the other graduates and their families, students cannot leave early as it disrupts the ceremony.

What is considered proper behavior at Commencement?

CBA faculty and staff want all graduates to enjoy their Commencement ceremony. As such, we ask that you and your family do not use noisemakers because no one will be able to hear the student’s name that follows you. Keep in mind that names are announced at a rapid pace and there are virtually no pauses. Do not bring anything that can obstruct the view of the stage.

Also, guests cannot enter the seating areas for graduates and disabled guests, even if it is just to take photographs. Professional photographers will be at the ceremony taking several close-ups shots that will be available for purchase.

When will I receive my honors cords?
Honors cords are given to students who have an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher. If you are eligible to wear honors cords, CBA will send a message via your csupomona.edu e-mail address. Students with proper identification can pick up their honors cords from the Registrar’s Office beginning (To Be Determined).

I want to sing at Commencement. How can I be considered?

CBA uses student performers who have been selected by the Music Department to sing the National Anthem. To be considered, please contact the Music Department.

I am a Master’s student in the College of Business Administration. Do we have our own ceremony?

CBA has one ceremony conferring degrees to undergraduate and graduate students.

What happens during the hooding ceremony?

The hooding ceremony will occur on stage before students receive their diploma covers. In the line-up area, be sure to place the hood on your left forearm with the felt side showing. Then, a professor will place the hood over your head with the Cal Poly Pomona colors showing.
