Dr. Gerald E. Wagner and CIS
| Dr. Gerry Wanger joined the faculty at Cal Poly Pomona in 1966, and has been a major forrce in the development and success of the CIS degree program within the College of Business Administration. As first chairperson of the CIS Department (formerly Data Processing) in 1968, he developed and taught all the courses leading to the original Data Processing degree. The EDP Auditing Option within the graduate program in the CBA was developed under the guidance of Dr. Wagner in 1980. This program was officially renamed Information Systems Auditing (IS) and was made a full Masters of Science degree in Business Administration (MSBA-IS) in 1995, one of the first of its kind in the nation. |
Alumni of the CIS Department established the endowment in 1998 to recognize Dr. Wagner’s leadership and to assist students and faculty in maintaining academic excellence in the classroom.

The Wagner Fund at Work
2007/08 Telecom Lab Equipment Equipment to support hands-on learning for telecommunications courses was of great benefit to over 200 students. The CIS department has an active telecommunications laboratory to support coursework and student teams. The Wagner fund purchased equipment to give students industry standard, hands-on experiences in their courses and the lab. 2007/08 Student Scholarships Two Scholarships were awarded to Thao Hoang and Donny Surjana. The scholarships are based upon GPA, need and commitment to the CIS Department. |  |
| 2006/2007 Excellence in Security and Computer Forensics Education Software for Computer Security and Forensics – A license for ENCASE Enterprise Edition was purchased, expanded course offerings in computer forensics and security. The curriculum was instrumental in CIS becoming a center of excellence in Information Assurance Education. This supports both our undergraduate and graduate programs (MSBA-IS Audit and MBA-IM / Tele) Over 300 students have graduated with industry level knowledge using this tool. |
