IBM Department Internship Instructions IBM 441 and 442 - All sections1. Complete the on-line Internship Application. 2. Preregister or register for the correct number of units -- 441-01, 441-02, 441-03, 441-04/ 442-01, 442-02, 442-03, 442-04. The number of units of credit depends on the number of hours per week that you work. If you work 10 hours per week, you can register for one unit of Internship, 20 hours per week is 2 units, and so on. 3. Submit the Intenship Supervisor Approval form that can be found on the Student Forms page. This form is to be signed by the immediate supervisor of the the company/organization that you are seeking the internship. 4. Unpaid internships: Company is to provide the Cal Poly Pomona student with Workers Compensation Insurance for the Intern Student. 5. Write a five page report about your work experience. See below for details to complete the report for each majors. The report must include the completed Internship Report and Senior Project Form that can be found on the Student Froms page. • The paper must be typed in a print typeface no smaller than 12’ font and double spaced, using excellent grammar, punctuation, spelling, and capitalization. • This paper is due the Thursday of the eight week of the quarter and needs to be turned into the IBM Department Office (Bldg. 94-226). • Keep a copy of your report for yourself in case your paper is inadvertently lost. The copy you turn in will not be returned to you. • Late papers will be accepted, but will be assessed a 10-point penalty for each class day late. In other words, a paper which is worth 100 points and which is 5 business days late, will only be worth 50 points and will earn a grade of "F". • The project report is not to be put into a binder of any kind! 6. See to it that your employer named on your application form returns the completed Confidential Evaluation Form in the business reply envelope we provide them or in electronic format. Please ask your supervisor/employer to contact the IBM dept. to obtain the Confidential Evaluation Form. This form must be returned to the IBM department NO LATER THAN FINAL EXAM WEEK. 7. This is not a class which meets as a group. If you are not able to continue with your internship, you must complete a "drop" form or you will receive an "F". Marketing Majors Only1. CONTENTS OF PAPER: • Your company name and a brief history. • Your detailed analysis of what you do and how it relates to Marketing in this job. • How you have been able to integrate your marketing education into this job and this internship. 2. COVER PAGE should include: • Company name, Class and section, (ex. IBM 401-04), and your name. • Staple in the upper left hand corner. • Spelling, punctuation, and capitalization errors will reduce your score one point each, and grammatical errors will reduce your score five points each. International Business Majors Only1. CONTENTS OF PAPER: A. Your company name. • Local address • Address of headquarters • Location of international operations B. Describe the company, including: • Sales and revenues • Employees • Product Lines or services offered • Chief competitors C. Which aspects of the company are international? • Sales (Quantify)? • Vendors/Suppliers (Quantify and describe) D. If the company is predominantly domestic, describe any part of the operation dealing with the following: • Multi-cultural customers • Foreign suppliers/vendors • Import/Export activities • Multi-cultural background of employees E. Describe in detail: • What do you do on the job*? • What have you learned from the job? • How will your experience in the job help prepare you for a job in International Business in the future? • What aspects of the job were helpful in acquiring the skills and exposure needed for a job in international business? * If your primary duties are not international describe what steps you have taken to familiarize yourself with the international aspects of your company or industry.
