Welcome to the Management and Human Resources Department The MHR Department is a concentration that emphasizes the role of people in organizations, through four career-elective tracks: Management, Human Resources, Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management and Not-for-Profit Management. MHR is flexible and adaptive to student interests and experiences. Graduates have careers in a wide variety of industries, from entertainment to engineering, and have positions varying from HR generalist to regional manager. MHR offers a concentration that is flexible and adaptive to student interests and experiences. A primary focus in MHR classes is student-collaborative (hands-on) learning. Classroom activities consist of a varying combination of dynamic discussions, experiential exercises, case studies and simulations. Many courses have group projects, where students learn to work as a team, as well as refine their communication skills. Most senior MHR students opt to take internship as an important component of their undergraduate education. This year, internship sponsors included companies such as Southern California Edison, Target, JPL, and Lionsgate. Other senior MHR students chose to do a community service learning project instead of an internship. They worked with high school students from the School of Arts and Entrepreneurship (SAE), a Pomona based charter school. MHR students served as mentors to SAE students as they worked with local business owners to enhance their marketing strategies. I’m very pleased to announce that Professionals in Human Resources Association (PIHRA), a student club based in the MHR department was named one of the top 10 student clubs in the nation, by its parent organization, the Society for Human Resource Management for the second consecutive year. MHR students are involved in active learning experiences beyond traditional lectures and textbooks. Whether it is through classroom discussion and simulations, internships, service learning opportunities or club involvement, our students have a unique educational experience. Sincerely, Cheryl Wyrick Cheryl Wyrick, Ph.D. SPHR Professor and Chair Management and Human Resources Dept. |
